Samuel W. Westing
Sam Westing is the writer of the will. It is his final will and testament. He is the creator of the Westing Game. His real name is Windy Windkloppel. But later, he changed it to Samuel Westing because he thought no one was going to buy any products from a company called Windkloppel Paper Products Incorporation. He was the only son of poor immigrant parents who both died when he was 12. Sam Westing worked hard. He never smoked, drank, or gambled. He said, "clean living, hard work, and fair play." Sam Westing was a dedicated gamesman and a master at chess. Sam Westing was famous for his entertaining Fourth of July celebrations. Pageants that he wrote and directed himself were performed during the day. When the sun went down, he would dawn his Uncle Sam costume and entertain the crowd with a stunning fireworks display that could be viewed 30 miles away.
He was married to Berthe Erica Crow, but obtained a divorce after she left him years ago. They had one daughter named Violet Westing, but she died. She and George Theodorakis were engaged, but Crow broke them up so Violet could marry a corrupt politician. She drowned herself on the eve of her wedding. Sam Westing blames Crow for the death of his daughter. Crow is the heir he is seeking to punish. Her name in in the song "America the Beautiful".
